Press Release: March 2011

Posted on August 31, 2011

At the most recent Board of Managers meeting, the decision was made to amend CSIA’s By-Laws to expand the definition of Regular/ Employer Members in CSIA. This change to the Association’s By-Laws was approved by CSIA Members at our Annual Meeting on March 4th, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.

Effective immediately, employers that have a high deductible program in excess of $150,000 for their workers’ compensation exposure will be able to join CSIA as an Employer Member. The Board of Managers believe that even though these employers are not fully self-insured, there are many similarities in how their WC programs are managed. These employers will be able to benefit from partnering with CSIA, and CSIA can also benefit by gaining a perspective on how these programs are managed. Combined, our educational programs will be stronger as will our representation of the self-insured employer perspective to state officials.

The Mission and Vision of CSIA will remain the same as shown below.

To our Professional and Associate members, please pass this message along to those you feel may have an interest in now joining CSIA.

Our Mission

It is the mission of our organization to protect the viability of self-insurance in California by providing leadership to the self-insured workers’ compensation community through:

  • Education
  • Communication
  • Advocacy

Our Vision

CSIA is the Association in which all California Self-Insured Employers and their service providers are members, and the organization that employers, regulators and lawmakers rely upon for workers’ compensation training and self-insurance guidance.

Please contact Phil Millhollon at (925) 648-2002 or by email at pmillhollon@caself- insurers.com if you have any questions.

As a provider of workers’ comp managed care services to California’s self-insured employers and as an employer ourselves, we receive great value from our CSIA membership.  The association provides educational opportunities, through conferences and other means, which are timely and relevant.  We are kept current on issues affecting employers and the self-insured, which makes us better partners in serving their needs.
